Intimacy & Emotional Connection: common questions
Is it appropriate to discuss sex with a Christian counselor?
Yes. Christian counselors are trained to discuss physical intimacy respectfully and in a way that fits your values. You choose what you're comfortable talking about.
We're not in crisis, just distant. Is counseling for us?
Yes. Many couples come in because the spark has faded under work, children and stress, and they want to reconnect before distance grows.
Is this the same as sex therapy?
It overlaps. Intimacy counseling covers emotional and physical closeness; sex therapy is specialist talk therapy for sexual difficulties, and some counselors are trained in both. There is never any physical contact in either.
What if there's a medical cause?
Your counselor may suggest seeing a doctor alongside counseling, since health, medication and hormones can affect intimacy.
